On February 19, 2020, Hollywood Hills Elementary School students participated in Walk with a Cop. Walk with a Cop is an event held every year where police officers from the city of Hollywood and families from HHE gather at a meeting location and walk to school together.

“[I liked] going with friends,” fourth grade student Dylan Davis said. “This is the first time I’ve done it.”

Some of the benefits of this event are that it gets students to consider walking to school and avoid wasting fossil fuels. Kids can also get more comfortable around police officers.

“I think Walk With a Cop is important because it gave families and students a chance to see that police officers are a part of our school community,” Principal Fossas said.

“[Walk with a Cop] gets kids to come out and meet me and the other officers and understand that they can come talk to us whenever they need or have a problem.”

Students were able to walk to school with HHE’s school resource officer, Officer Perez. They were able to see that police officers are friendly and there to help them.
