Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) closed their doors on March 13 because of the coronavirus pandemic. HHE students and staff have different opinions on school campuses being closed. They were asked to share their thoughts on schools closing and here are their replies:
“I feel kind of sad and kind of happy. I am sad I won’t see my friends or teachers. I am happy I can have more free time.” Mason Marmor, first grade
“I feel really sad knowing that I was going to get to do all these things that I was looking forward to since kindergarten, and now I’m not going to finish doing them (drama, drumline, TOTs, etc.). I’m upset that I don’t get to finish my final year at my elementary school.” Penelope Kraus, fifth grade
“I kind of like that school is closing because online school is easier and you can finish faster.” Esme Scott, fifth grade
“I am really sad because we have no school and that we don’t get to see our friends, but we get to see them on Zoom.” Sam Mantell, second grade
“I feel extremely sad that school is closing for the rest of the year. In fifth grade especially, there are many fun and exciting activities at the end of the year. It is my favorite time with my students as they prepare to transition into middle school. On the other hand, if this is a necessary decision to keep people healthy and safe, I feel thankful that we are making sure that happens.” Mrs. Pacheco, fifth grade teacher
“For me, school closing for the rest of the year is disappointing because I know the kids miss each other and I miss seeing them come out to PE to participate in fun activities. I know it is even more sad for the fifth graders being that it is their last year.” Coach Justino, PE
